Hendersonville sits eighteen miles northeast of Nashville on the shore of Old Hickory Lake. The Corps of Engineers finished damming the Cumberland here in 1954, and the town grew up around the water. It's the tenth-largest city in Tennessee, about 62,000 people. Johnny Cash and June Carter lived here for thirty-five years; their Braxton Dixon-designed house on the lake burned in a 2007 renovation, and both are buried at Hendersonville Memory Gardens on East Main.

Hendersonville's drink scene runs along the water and along Main. The Rudder at Anchor High Marina sits in Rockland Harbor on Old Hickory Lake and books live music year-round; Moby Dicky's has a big summer patio further down the shore. Rosie Food & Wine is the tighter dinner room off Anderson Lane, with chef Andy Hayes running the menu and one of the deeper wine lists in Sumner County. Downtown Main Street has a handful of standing rooms including Brooks Tavern and The Local. TailGate Brewery has a Hendersonville location and Half Batch Brewing runs a smaller taproom.
